Mexico Crop Conditions Relatively Favorable

Kansas City, July 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall earlier this year and timely monsoonal rain since the beginning of June was noted for a large section of Mexico. Planting, establishment, and development conditions have been relatively good for the nation’s summer crops; like corn, soybeans, dry beans, sugarcane, cotton, rice and coffee, among others. A few locations in the north and southeast dried down recently and would welcome a boost in rain this month. Much of Mexico will see a good mix of monsoonal rain and sunshine through at least the middle of next week. Portions of northeastern, north-central, and extreme southeastern Mexico will dry down despite some spotty rain and the need for rain will increase later in July. Other locations will receive enough rain to maintain aggressive growth.

NW U.S. Corn Belt, Northern Plains Drying; Heat Stress Likely

Kansas City, July 8 (World Weather Inc.) – An impressive ridge of high pressure will build through the Rocky Mountain region to the U.S. Great Plains and a part of southern Canada’s Prairies over the next few days. The ridge will be most dominating during the late weekend through the early to middle part of next week before shifting west into the Rocky Mountain states late next week and into the following weekend. The ridge will suppress rainfall for a week to nearly ten days and it will induce several days of very warm to hot temperatures. The result of this mix will be a notable dry down period for the northern U.S. Plains and northwestern Corn and Soybean Belt that will stress dryland crops especially in areas of low soil moisture which includes portions of Nebraska, South Dakota, southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa. Late July and early August weather will need to be wetter and milder to protect production potentials.

China Flooding To Expand As Typhoon Arrives This Weekend

Kansas City, July 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Crop conditions are relatively favorable in the main production areas of China. The main production areas received enough rain in recent weeks to keep soil moisture at adequate or excessive levels outside pockets in the central Yellow River Basin. China will continue to see waves of rain through the middle of next week as more disturbances impact the country. Typhoon Bavi was over the Philippine Sea this morning, making its way toward Taiwan. After clipping northern Taiwan late Friday, Bavi will potentially track from southeastern China into the Yangtze River Basin over the weekend and early next week. Torrential rain and damaging wind are likely for portions of Fujian, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi, which may damage rice, sugarcane, and corn produced this time of year. Remnants of Bavi could also enhance rain in portions of the North China Plain and Northeast China late this weekend and early next week with localized flooding possible. Other production areas will receive enough rain to maintain relatively good crop conditions.
