Thailand, Neighboring Areas Still Dealing With Dryness

Kansas City, June 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Monsoonal rain has helped improve the moisture profile for portions of mainland Southeast Asia recently, but not so much in Thailand and neighboring areas. This year’s monsoon got off to a sluggish start after several weeks of poor rainfall in the pre-monsoonal shower pattern impacting Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and southern Vietnam. Planting of rice, corn, and other crops is either winding down or will continue for the next few weeks. Sugarcane, rice and corn may be suffering most from the drier bias in some areas. Monsoonal rain is expected to become better enhanced in the next few weeks, but there is still some concern about the volume of rain that falls in interior southern Thailand. Central Myanmar is also quite dry.

Mexico’s Monsoon To Promote Some Relief From Drought

Kansas City, June 21 (World Weather Inc.) – Mexico’s monsoon got underway in southern portions of the country recently, although the biggest improvement to soil moisture has resulted from this past week’s increase in tropical activity. The rain was enough to bolster soil moisture and ease drought in southern and eastern parts of the nation. Much more rain is still needed, though. The monsoon will expand across much of Mexico in the coming weeks and there is one more tropical disturbance that will bring rain to eastern parts of the nation this weekend and early next week. The biggest change in monsoon flow will take place later next week and into the first days of July when seasonal rain is expected to begin in central parts of the nation

U.S. Lowest Midwest Relief Next Week To Be Limited

Kansas City, June 21 (World Weather Inc.) – A high-pressure ridge over eastern North America limited rainfall and induced some very warm temperatures in much of the lower Midwest during the past week resulting in net drying. While late-season planting and general fieldwork advanced swiftly in this environment, the need for timely rain is increasing. Little to no rain will fall through the weekend and the continued dryness and warm weather will impact crop development rates and induce some plant stress. Precipitation will remain limited today and Saturday as the ridge remains over eastern North America. The region will have a few opportunities for erratic rainfall and thunderstorms later this weekend and next week as the ridge slowly propagates into western North America. Resulting rainfall will be too light to significantly improve the moisture profile in most areas and net drying will persist, leading to additional crop moisture stress.
