Australia Wheat Prospects Remain Generally Good

Kansas City, June 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Although rain was limited in a large section of Australia’s main farming regions during the past week, the outlook for the winter wheat, barley, and canola remains relatively good. Western Australia received timely rain earlier this month that helped improve establishment and early-season growth. Other locations received periodic rainfall over the planting season that was beneficial for the crops as well. Queensland and South Australia have either become or remained too dry to support ideal long-term conditions and rain is needed. Western Australia would also welcome additional rain to completely reverse the moisture deficits. Australia will see a good mix of rain and sunshine through the middle of next week that will limit drying or help keep soil moisture near current levels. Yield potentials should remain mostly unchanged, though the driest fields will remain in need of rain later in July.

High Pressure To Dry Down, Heat Up Western Russia, Ukraine

Kansas City, June 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Recent rain and cooler than usual temperatures have impacted the driest areas of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) this past week. The break from dry and warm weather was refreshing, but the change in soil and crop conditions was not enough to seriously change the concern over production for this year. Western Russia and eastern Ukraine will again be drier biased through the middle of next week as a high-pressure ridge slowly builds over the region in the coming weeks. The warmer and drier biased conditions associated with the ridge will enhance drying rates and may impact development rates for the summer grains and oilseeds. The ridge may be a common feature during the second week of the outlook and could promote additional drying in portions of the western CIS.
