Canadian Prairies Agricultural Weather Prognosticator For July 15, 2024

Western parts of the Prairies are expected to finish the month of July quite warm with a drying bias that favors southern and east-central Alberta and interior southwestern and south-central Saskatchewan. This latest Canadian Prairies Agricultural Weather Prognosticator provides details as to why the Prairies are dealing with drier and warmer biased weather oncen again and how long it may last. This latest edition still suggests greater rain in August, though that depends of the position and intensity of high pressure aloft over North America. Updates on U.S. and and Argentina crop weather is also included in this prognosticator.

Argentina Wheat Establishment To Get Boost From Rain

Kansas City, July 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter wheat and barley establishment has been a little slow this season due to low soil moisture and colder than usual temperatures, but the crop has potential. Improved soil moisture and warming is all that is needed to ensure a successful start to the growing season. Some of that needed moisture is expected late this week into early next week. The precipitation will stall summer crop harvesting and may delay any remaining winter crop planting, but the moisture will be ideal in supporting a well-established winter crop.

U.S. Midwest Will Benefit From Rain, Mild Temperatures

Kansas City, July 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Ample moisture continues to support good corn and soybean conditions for much of the U.S. Midwest. The region saw several waves of rain during the past week with warm, but not hot, temperatures. The region will see a good mix of rain and sunshine this week. The best chances for rain will occur through mid-week as a strong upper-level trough of low pressure slowly advances over the region. In addition to more rain, the trough will also bring cool air to the region that will conserve soil moisture for several days. Additional rain will also occur in portions of crop country late this week and weekend after the trough exits the region. The rain and mild temperatures will support good corn and soybean conditions across the region.
