Canadian Prairies Harvest Will Advance Around Spotty Rain

Kansas City, September 27 (World Weather Inc.) – The harvest is advancing near or ahead of normal for much of the Canadian Prairies. Portions of Alberta and northwestern Saskatchewan received significant rain earlier this month that delayed the harvest and may have reduced quality in the wettest pockets. Other production areas experienced more favorable conditions for harvest despite some spotty rain at times. The Prairies will have a few opportunities erratic rainfall through the end of next week that may slow the harvest for some. No significant delays are expected and producers will be able to harvest aggressively between rain events.

U.S. Southeast, Ohio River Valley To Face Impacts From Helene

Kansas City, September 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Torrential rain and damaging winds lashed portions of the U.S. southeast during the past two days as Hurricane Helene approached and eventually made landfall. Severe flooding was noted in portions of northern Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and neighboring locations at a time when many producers were harvesting or getting ready for the harvest. Significant damage or losses are expected for some of the peanut and other oilseeds, coarse grain, cotton, other crops produced in the southeast this time of year. Fieldwork will be delayed for several days or even weeks as many areas receive additional rain today and flood water recedes into next week. Most of the lower eastern Midwest will also be impacted by rain associated from Helene during the next several days resulting in harvest delays. Other U.S. crop areas will be drier biased-for nearly 10 days favoring crop maturation and harvesting.
