Kirk To Bring Tropical Storm Force Wind, Rain To Europe

Kansas City, October 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Hurricane Kirk was weakening over the central northern Atlantic Ocean this morning. The storm will lose its tropical characteristics while weakening to tropical storm status today and Tuesday while racing toward Western Europe. The storm will impact northern Portugal, northern Spain, France and a part of the eastern North Sea and Scandinavian Countries during mid- to late week this week. Damaging wind, flooding rain and a coastal storm surge are expected.

Mexico To Receive Additional Rain Despite Nearby Disturbances

Kansas City, October 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought persists in northwestern Mexico as drier than normal conditions persisted during the past month. Monsoonal rain otherwise improved or eliminated the drought in the remaining production areas of Mexico. Crop conditions slowly improved over the monsoon season due to the ample rainfall with later planted crops likely performing better than the earlier planted crops. However, production is still expected to trend a little lower than usual, primarily for the crops that go in the ground first. Monsoonal rain will continue on a frequent basis for much of Mexico outside the northwestern and north-central production areas through the end of next week despite tropical disturbances tracking nearby in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Gulf of Mexico.

La Nina Not To Be Blamed For World Weather Anomalies

Kansas City, October 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Dryness in the central and western United States, China’s Yangtze River Basin, areas from eastern Ukraine to Kazakhstan, South America and Australia cannot and should not be attributed to La Nina because it does not exist. Some of the dryness might be attributed to the tendency to develop toward La Nina, but it does not look like a full blown La Nina event is going to evolve. Because of that some of the world’s dryness cannot be attributed to that phenomenon. The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) ENSO forecast model continues to predict a La Nin event is imminent as it has all year long, but it has not evolved and World Weather, Inc. is highly skeptical that it will evolve anytime in the remainder of this calendar year.

Canadian Prairies Harvest Advancing, No Major Disruptions

Kansas City, October 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Warmer-than-normal weather combined with a lack of abundant precipitation promoted a good environment for harvesting and general fieldwork in a large section of the Canadian Prairies during the previous week. The harvest remains ahead of normal in most locations and should be wrapping up in coming weeks. Yield potentials remain a little lower than normal due to adverse conditions earlier in the growing season, most notably in portions of Alberta and Saskatchewan. A disturbance will initially promote erratic precipitation for the Prairies today and Saturday with Saskatchewan and Manitoba getting the great amounts of rain and possibly a little snow, as well. Following this disturbance will be a period of drier- and warmer-than-normal weather Sunday into next week as a high-pressure ridge slowly advances over the region. There will still be a few opportunities for spotty rain, though no major harvest disruptions are expected.
