Hurricane Milton Leaves Florida; Damage Assessment Begins

Kansas City, October 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Hurricane Milton left the coast of east-central Florida prior to dawn today and has left behind widespread power outages, considerable tree and structural damage and some significant flooding. However, the damage is suspected of being widespread from the heart of central Florida to interior portions of the northeast.

Russia Winter Grain Areas Will Not See Relief From Dryness

Kansas City, October 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter grain and oilseed planting in Russia and neighboring areas of Ukraine and Kazakhstan is advancing slowly this autumn. Well below average rainfall during the past month combined with periods of warmer than normal weather left the ground too dry to support ideal establishment and long-term crop prospects. Precipitation will remain limited through at least the middle of next week as well. Planting conditions will remain less than favorable to poor and concerns for reduced acreage will increase. Late-season harvesting of the summer crops will otherwise advance swiftly, though some minor delays will be possible due to spotty precipitation.

India Harvest Will be Delayed For Some Due To Rain

Kansas City, October 9 (World Weather Inc.) – Several locations in southern and eastern India received enough rain to slow or delay the harvest during the past week. Minor quality declines were a concern in the wettest locations of Bangladesh, the Eastern States, Tamil Nadu, and neighboring locations, though overall production losses were minimal. Southern and eastern India will receive additional rain through the middle of next week that may further delay harvesting and general fieldwork. A weak tropical disturbance could promote localized flooding in southern India next week with minor crop losses possible. Maharashtra and Telangana will also receive enough rain to potentially impact the harvest while more favorable conditions are expected elsewhere due to mostly dry weather. Rabi planting prospects are generally favorable across the country due to ample rainfall over the monsoon season.
