U.S. Frost, Freezes To Have Minimal Impact On Crops

Kansas City, October 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Harvesting of the corn, soybeans, and other summer crops is ongoing across the U.S. Corn and Soybean Belt. While maturation and harvest conditions were generally good in recent weeks, there are still a few soybean and corn fields that may not be fully mature. Temperatures will remain warmer than normal during the next few days and should help maintain a good environment for late-season maturation. A strong cold front will then advance across the Midwest later this weekend and early next week that will increase potentials for frost and light freezes. Crop damage should be minimal as a majority of the corn and soybeans should already be mature. The impact of frost and freezes for any immature crop will be minimal with the biggest risk being blackened soybeans. The cold will not have any major impact on winter wheat. The wheat crop’s biggest threat is due to ongoing dryness and drought will continue to spread and intensify in the Midwest and Great Plains due to the lack of rain.

Western Australia, South Australia And Queensland Need Rain

Kansas City, October 10 (World Weather Inc.) – Many of Australia’s main winter grain and oilseed areas continue to struggle with moisture deficits despite some spotty rain during the past week. Eastern and southern parts of Western Australia are quite dry and the state usually produces 37% of the wheat crop and is the largest of the canola producing states, as well. Adverse conditions earlier in the growing season already reduced production potentials, most notably for Queensland. Queensland and northern New South Wales Australia are also in need of rain to support a better outlook for the summer grains, oilseeds, and cotton that are being planted. Western Australia and South Australia into much of Queensland will trend drier than normal during the coming week. Victoria and New South Wales will have better opportunities for rain as a disturbance tracks across the region next week. Victoria and New South Wales have the best production potential in the nation while yields may come lower in all other areas without significant rain soon.
