Southern Canadian Prairies To Dry Down Significantly

Kansas City, July 22 (World Weather Inc.) – Southern sections of Alberta and Saskatchewan were dry or received limited rainfall during the past week. These areas still had enough moisture to support aggressive growth, at least for the longer-rooted crops. Other areas in the Canadian Prairies saw a good mix of rain and sunshine, which helped maintain favorable crop conditions. The southern Prairies will continue or start to dry down (depending on location) through at least the middle of next week due to limited rainfall and periods of well above normal temperatures. Many areas in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan are already trending a little too dry for ideal conditions and this evolution is expected to continue through the end of July and a boost in rain will be needed. Areas farther north will again see a mix of rain and sunshine that will help maintain good crop conditions. In the meantime, flooded fields from excessive rain earlier this year have led to crop losses in several areas.
