Tropical Depression 11W Develops Over Philippine Sea

Tropical Depression 11W has developed over the Philippine Sea and is expected to move through the Luzon Strait toward southeastern China in the next 48 hours. 11W is currently forecast to make landfall between Hong Kong and Quanzhou Saturday afternoon as a category 1 hurricane equivalent typhoon, with maximum estimated sustained wind speeds near 85 mph. Shipping delays in the region will be likely until the storm passes. Up to 10.00 inches of total rain is possible through Sunday near the site of landfall. Flash flooding will be likely if amounts verify, alongside some impacts to rice. Some minor impacts to sugar cane are also possible. A close watch on 11W will be needed in the coming days.
