South Africa Rain Improves Planting Outlook

Kansas City, October 24 (World Weather Inc.) – A disturbance recently brought varying amounts of rain to the main summer grain, oilseed, and cotton areas of South Africa. Rainfall was greatest in Natal and Eastern Cape, though several locations in Free State, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, and neighboring locations received timely rain as well. Planting normally begins in October and continues through December and the recent rain will help support aggressive establishment. Greater rain is needed in northwestern production areas. Eastern and southern South Africa will see a mix of rain and sunshine during the coming week that will help maintain relatively good short-term crop conditions. In the meantime, the main winter wheat areas will experience relatively good harvest conditions during the coming week.

Australia Harvest To Advance Swiftly In Coming Week

Kansas City, October 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Interior southeastern Australia received enough rain to potentially slow early-season maturation and harvesting during the past week. The precipitation was not enough to induce quality issues, although drier weather would be welcome to support more aggressive harvesting. Much of Australia’s weather will trend drier biased during the coming week and that will lead crop areas to gradually dry down. The environment will improve or remain favorable for harvesting. In the meantime, Queensland and portions of northern New South Wales will remain too dry for unirrigated summer grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops that are going into the ground. Victoria and southern New South Wales will have ample moisture to support aggressive establishment despite receiving little to no rain in coming days.

Dryness In Turkey To Persist Raising Wheat Concern

Kansas City, October 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Dry-biased conditions have persisted in much of Turkey’s main winter wheat areas since at least the beginning of October with less than 25% of normal rainfall noted. Dry conditions are forecast to persist in most of the country, which will amplify plant moisture stress in unirrigated fields and further delay some dryland planting. Computer forecast models indicate that conditions will remain dry going into the first week of November. There is a possibility of some precipitation returning to the region near the end of the two-week forecast period, though amounts are uncertain and the forecast is likely to change in coming days.

Argentina Rain Bolsters Soil Moisture In Key Crop Region

Kansas City, October 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall since Monday morning of this week has been very impressive across the heart of Argentina’s crop region. The moisture fell across the majority of the most important grain and oilseed production region and seriously improved the moisture profile for the first half of November. The moisture boost was extremely important since the next rain event may be a full week away and perhaps a little longer. Reproducing winter grains are expected to benefit greatly from the moisture boost as will the planting of early season corn and sunseed. Soybean planting begins in early November making this rain event very well-timed for the start of that process.
