2025 Weather Outlook Series: North America Summer

Kansas City, February 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Spring weather, as noted in our second part of this three-part long range weather series for North America, was complicated – to say the least. Either old age is making the art of weather forecasting more complex than it needs to be or we are truly in unique times. Confidence in the spring outlooks for both Canada and the United States is high despite all of the data presented for the spring outlook. Unfortunately, the summer is not going to be much easier because so much of the summer outlook will be dependent on what happens in the spring.

Northwestern Mexico Drought Persists; No Relief Expected

Kansas City, February 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Severe to exceptional drought continues in northwestern Mexico as dry biased conditions continue to persist. Soil moisture remains very short across crop country. In the next 7-days, a few isolated showers bringing under 0.15 inch of moisture will be possible late Tuesday; otherwise, dry conditions will persist. If this forecast verifies, the need for more moisture will be amplified to support crop development in the coming weeks.

Philippines Can’t Shake Off The Heavy Rain, Flood Events

Kansas City, February 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in southern Luzon Island, Samar Island, and northeastern Mindanao in the Philippines reported heavy to excessive rain during the past week. Waves of rain are slated for these areas through the end of next week that may promote severe flooding and landslides. Several of these locations have already experienced flooding in recent months and the threat for additional flooding could further impact rice, corn, sugarcane, coffee, cocoa and a host of other crops. Production may trend lower or much lower than usual in several locations due to the adverse weather conditions.
