Brazil Coffee Areas Drying Out; Limited Relief Likely

Kansas City, February 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil’s most important Robusta coffee production areas of Sul de Minas, Cerrado Mineiro and Zona da Mata have been steadily drying down recently and there is not much reason to expect big changes for a while. The recent commodity market trade frenzy for coffee may not have had much to do with the weather, but weather is certainly playing into the bullishness right now and the influence may continue for at least the next ten days

Sao Paulo Rainfall Next Few Days To Improve Sugarcane

Kansas City, February 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Showers and thunderstorms are expected in portions of center south Brazil over the next several days. The moisture will be extremely important for sugarcane as well as for some corn, soybean, citrus and coffee areas after recent drying. Sufficient amounts of rain are expected to maintain or improve topsoil moisture for crops in this region.

India To Heat Up; May Stress Rabi Crops In Driest Fields

Kansas City, February 20 (World Weather Inc.) – India’s Rabi crops are in the most moisture sensitive reproductive stage of development and this will continue for another few weeks with filling likely in March. A large portion of the country has trended drier than normal so far this month with many areas getting little to no moisture in January. Irrigated crops have developed under relatively good conditions despite the lack of abundant rainfall. There are concerns that some of the rain-fed crops have not developed well and the need for timely rain is high. Northern and eastern India will have a few opportunities for rain during the coming week that will offer minor relief; however, temperatures will also trend above normal during the last days of February and may stress crops in the driest fields. Production may be cut due to the warm and dry weather in some areas.
