Argentina Summer Crops To Benefit From Net Drying

Kansas City, April 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of rain were noted in Argentina during the past week and the resulting moisture should be enough to maintain a good environment for aggressive late-season coarse grain, oilseed, cotton, and other crop development. Maturation and harvesting of early season crops may have advanced slowly at times because of rain, though quality impacts were suspected of being minimal. Drier-than-normal weather is now slated for the main production areas through the middle of next week and should favor late season crop development as well as support improving maturation and harvest conditions

Southern China, North China Plain In Need Of More Rain

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Eastern China has been experiencing below normal precipitation recently and some areas have dried out more than others. The far southernmost part of the nation from Yunnan to Guangxi and Guangdong have reported well below normal precipitation and soil moisture is rated a little too poorly to support rice, early season corn or normal sugarcane development. Areas north of the Yangtze River have also been quite dry, although irrigation is broadly used in winter wheat areas. Dryness in northern rapeseed areas, however, is a growing concern and significant rain will be needed soon to protect production potentials. Drought has recently been declared by the China Meteorological Agency in various areas and the prospects for rain are unchanging for the next two weeks. Dryness may threaten many crops and spring planting if left unchecked.

Severe Weather, Flooding To Impact U.S. Crops, Property

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Significantly contrasting air masses meeting up over the U.S. lower and eastern Midwest and Mid-South regions over the next few days will bring on a bout of severe thunderstorms and flooding. Areas of the Ohio and Mississippi River Valleys are being monitored for the potential for severe weather tonight into Thursday morning. Risks from these storms include; possible tornadoes, large hail, damaging wind, and heavy rain. The conflicting air masses will also set the stage for frequent bouts of heavy rain and the potential for additional strong to severe thunderstorms into Saturday. Rainfall totals going into Sunday will vary between 6.00 and 12.00 inches from Arkansas into portions of the Ohio River Valley and northern Delta with up to 14.00 inches possible from southern Kentucky into eastern Arkansas. If this forecast verifies, flooding will be a risk and may case damage to winter wheat in this region. Cooler-biased weather will then enter the Plains and eastern Midwest this weekend and early next week resulting in frost and freezes and a possible impact on the more advanced winter crops.

Brazil April Weather Suggests Near To Below Normal Rain

Kansas City, April 2 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil rainfall has not been as abundant or significant as it usually is near the end of the monsoon season especially in center south and northeastern parts of the nation. However, timely rain has continued to support crops and this process will continue for the next two weeks. There is concern that the monsoon season will end later this month without the ground being totally saturated and that may lead to moisture shortages when the late planted Safrinha corn reproduces and fills. Some of this was expected and the commodity trade has already factored this potential into futures prices, but the situation needs to be closely monitored for signs of hotter than expected weather during the dry season. World Weather, Inc. would not be surprised to see a few scattered showers and thunderstorms during the dry season to slow the rate of drying in “some” Safrinha crop areas.
