Typhoon Dolphin Will Bring Torrential Rain To Eastern China

Kansas City, August 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Typhoon Dolphin was located just north of Okinawa, Japan earlier this morning and helped shut down flights due to rain and strong winds. The disturbance will track into the East China Sea today and Saturday before reaching eastern China Sunday. Outer rain bands will initially reach Zhejiang, China and neighboring areas Saturday before more widespread rain evolves in eastern China later this weekend through at least the middle of next week. Dolphin will slowly meander around eastern China next week and will gradually weaken, though remnants of the disturbance may re-enter the East China Sea later next week. The combination of torrential rain and damaging wind could cause significant coarse grain, oilseed, cotton, and other crop damage from southeastern and east-central China into the North China Plain.

Australia’s Winter Crops See A Mix of Conditions

Kansas City, August 6 (World Weather, Inc.) – Most key canola, wheat, and barley areas in Australia have favorable soil moisture to support those crops as temperatures warm and development increases during the next several weeks. However, there are some notable exceptions and some key winter crop areas in northern New South Wales, South Australia, and Western Australia have become short of soil moisture with minor crop areas in Queensland also short of soil moisture. Welcome rain into this weekend will induce some likely temporary improvements in the drier parts of Western Australia, Southern Australia, and northern New South Wales before drier weather returns next week.

Mexico Would Welcome A Boost In Monsoonal Rain

Kansas City, August 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Several locations in southern, central, and northeastern Mexico experienced drier than usual weather during the past month. These areas initially had plenty of moisture to support aggressive growth for the grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops produced this time of year due to significant rainfall earlier in the growing season. However, there is a growing need for more frequent monsoonal rain to promote better late-season development in the driest locations. Monsoonal rain will favor southern and western Mexico during the coming week, which will support good development conditions, at least for the short-term. Other locations will have a few opportunities for monsoonal rain as well. Resulting precipitation will be too light to significantly improve the moisture profile or crop development conditions. Timely rain will be needed for the driest areas in central and northern Mexico later this month.
