U.S. Delta Drying To Expand Into Portions Of Southeast U.S.

Kansas City, August 11 (World Weather, Inc.) – Hot weather and limited rain in recent weeks from the Delta through Mississippi has firmed up the soil stressing late season crops and lowering yields. In contrast, the remainder of the Southeast U.S. has experienced regular rain that induced significant drought relief and improved conditions for crops. The two-week outlook includes a continued lack of rain from the Delta through Mississippi and into portions of Alabama where temperatures will remain hot through at least late next week. The remainder of the Southeast will see daily showers that will be timely and will slow drying rates, but with warm to hot temperatures in place most of region is not likely to receive enough rain to prevent net drying from taking place.

Southeast Canada Grain, Oilseed Conditions Remain Favorable

Kansas City, August 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Timely rain in recent weeks supported a good environment for corn and soybean and other crop development in Ontario and Quebec. Conditions have been relatively favorable for the crops this summer and production potentials are good. Southeast Canada will continue to see a good mix of rain and sunshine during the coming week that will keep soil moisture at adequate levels. Late-season development conditions will remain favorable across the region.

Eastern China Flooded By Typhoon Dolphin Rain

Kansas City, August 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Typhoon Dolphin advanced inland over China earlier this week. The disturbance brought heavy rain to portions of eastern China that promoted flooding in portions of Zhejiang, Hubei, and several neighboring areas. Damage to rice, grains, oilseeds, and other crops was suspected, though the extent of the losses was not yet known. Late-season development conditions may have deteriorated in the wettest areas with wet weather diseases also possible. China will have several opportunities for rain during the coming week. Precipitation will be greatest near and south of the Yangtze River and may again promote localized flooding in eastern sections of the Yangtze River Basin. Additional damage should be minimal. The environment will be relatively favorable for new growth outside the wettest areas.
