U.S. Midwest Soybeans, Corn Need Drier Weather

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Stormy weather in the Midwest this week has saturated the soil and induced flooding and frequent bouts of severe thunderstorms. Needless to say, it has been a stressful week for crops and producers from South Dakota and Nebraska through the heart of Iowa to interior northern and central Illinois and much of India to Ohio. The ground is saturated with moisture and some pools of standing water are present which raises concern over soybean conditions and to a lesser degree corn. Improving weather is coming, but probably not until late this month and when it improves it may not be completely dry. In the meantime, more rain this weekend and during mid-week next week will see to it that improvements are slow to come.

Southern, Western India Set To Dry Down For At Least A Week

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Moisture deficits continue for portions of southern India as drier-than-usual conditions prevail in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and neighboring areas. Early-planted crops in the south are likely developing unevenly or poorly due to the lack of monsoonal rain so far this season. Extreme northwestern India is also starting to dry down and would welcome rain. Other production areas in India saw a good mix of rain and sunshine in recent weeks. Flooding was noted in portions of the east and north, which may have damaged a few crops. Monsoonal rain will favor eastern, central, and northern India through the end of next week. These areas will have ample moisture to support new growth, though concern for flooding will persist. Southern India will remain drier than usual raising more concern about long-term crop development potential. Portions of western India will see rain during the next few days that will promote relatively good development in the short-term. However, dryness will likely spread across western India next week and potentially later this month, which may impact crop conditions.
