U.S. Northern Plains Weather Favors Crop Maturation, Harvesting

Kansas City, August 19 (World Weather, Inc.) – Warmer-than-normal temperatures and infrequent rain during the next ten days to two weeks will allow crop maturation and harvesting to continue at an above-average pace after hot and dry weather at times during the summer sped up crop development. Not all crops are mature, however, and corn, soybeans, and sorghum would benefit from rain even though there is still some moisture left in the ground for crops to utilize. Meanwhile, significant rain is needed to improve prospects for winter wheat planting.

Luzon Island, Philippines Flooding Will Likely Persist

Kansas City, August 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Rounds of heavy monsoonal rain lashed western Luzon Island, Philippines since early August. The frequent monsoonal rain caused severe flooding that closed roads and schools and may have damaged crops and general infrastructure. Significant rain will continue today as a tropical disturbance tracks nearby over the South China Sea. Flood potentials will remain high and could cause additional crop and structural damage. Rainfall will decrease later in the workweek as a low-pressure center abates from the region, but enhanced monsoon flow will return heavy rain next week.

Weekly Citrus Weather For Tuesday, August 18, 2026

Kansas City, August 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region again saw a good mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. The region will trend a little drier than usual during the coming week, though periods of rain will still occur. Additional rain and adequate amounts of moisture in the soil will help maintain relatively favorable citrus growth. Mexico’s citrus areas either had enough moisture or received enough rain to promote good citrus conditions during the past week. Northeastern Mexico will either trend dry or receive minimal rain during the coming week and a good shot of rain would be welcome later this month. Other citrus areas will receive enough rain to maintain aggressive development. Brazil’s citrus areas will see mostly favorable weather for harvesting and general farming activity.

World Oilseeds Weather For Tuesday, August 18, 2026

Kansas City, August 17 (World Weather, Inc.) – Oilseed production around the world seems to be doing well especially for an El Nino year. However, El Nino events are far more impactful on tropical and subtropical regions of the world which helps to minimize the potential for big production cuts for soybeans, groundnuts, canola and sunseed since they ae produced mostly in the higher latitudes. There is some concern over production cuts in western and southern Europe. Weather problems elsewhere do not seem to be hugely problematic, although rain is needed in southern India, eastern Mexico, the southern U.S. Plains and Delta as well as the Black Sea region.
