East Canada Prairies, Upper U.S. Midwest Frost Later This Week

Kansas City, September 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Two shots of cold air will push through eastern Canada’s Prairies this week associated with a repeating pattern that World Weather, Inc. has been monitoring since last November. Last week’s cold weather was associated with this same cold pattern and it should reach a peak late this week and early in the weekend. Wednesday will be the first round of cooler than usual weather in the eastern Prairies while Friday and Saturday will be cold again over some of the same areas. Portions of the upper U.S. Midwest will see some frost and a few freezes Thursday morning with another opportunity for frost in the upper Midwest and Great Lakes region Sunday and Monday of next week.

U.S. Plains Rain Beneficial For Hard Red Wheat Planting

Kansas City, August 29 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall was highly variable across the central and southern U.S. Plains during the past week. Several areas in Oklahoma and Kansas received multiple inches of rain that significantly bolstered soil moisture. While the rain is welcome for those planting winter wheat in the coming weeks, precipitation was ill-timed for the maturing summer grains and other crops produced this time of year. Spotty rain and thunderstorms will continue through early next week before drier weather evolves later next week. The rain will improve planting potentials for hard red winter wheat across the main production areas. Late-season development of the summer crops will improve or remain favorable as well.

West Texas Weekend Rain Very Important For Dryland Crops

Kansas City, August 29 (World Weather Inc.) – Cool air over the U.S. Midwest and central and northern Great Plains has been drifting southward the past few days. Rain and thunderstorms are expected as the cooler air intermixes with warm and more humid air over the southwestern Plains this weekend. The rain event is very important to late season crop development in unirrigated fields especially in the southwest of West Texas where cotton and a few other crops have been struggling because of limited moisture for quite a while. The rain coming will be welcome, but some of it may be a bit late for a big change in production potential.
