Lower U.S. Midwest, North Delta And Tennessee Dryness Eased

Kansas City, September 26 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain earlier this week brought some much needed relief to drought and dryness from the northern Delta into southern Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and southern portions of both Indiana and Ohio. The rain came too late to help late season crop production, but it did settle the dust and improved topsoil moisture for wheat planting this autumn. More rain is needed to get river and stream flows to increase a little more, but with the harvest looming it would be best for follow up rain to fall later in the autumn. Quick drying in the coming week will get farmers back into their fields relatively fast.

Western Australia Drying Down Ahead of Reproduction

Kansas City, September 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Timely rain and adequate amounts of soil moisture have dominated much of Australia in recent weeks, although Queensland has had some dryness issues in unirrigated fields. Western Australia has now begun to dry down and that trend may continue along with warmer temperatures in the next couple of weeks which may harm some of the winter wheat, barley and canola that will be reproducing and filling next month. Production potentials in all other areas in Australia are favorable with little change likely, despite another week of drying for areas outside of Victoria and southeastern South Australia. A boost in rainfall will not only be needed in Western Australia for winter crop reproduction, but for the planting of unirrigated cotton, coarse grain and oilseed in Queensland as well.

Central Europe Rain Delays Harvest; Some Areas Still Too Dry

Kansas City, September 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall during the past week was greatest from eastern France and southern Germany southward into Italy and the Adriatic Sea region where field working delays were common. Harvesting of summer crops and the planting of winter crops was slowed because of the rain, but some winter crop areas that had been quite dry previously benefited greatly from the moisture. Winter crop seeding and establishment conditions should improve. With that said, though, many areas in western and southern France the lower Danube River Basin and areas near the Black Sea are still running moisture deficits that could hurt winter crop establishment if not fixed in the next few weeks. Less rain in this coming week should help improve field working conditions in the wetter areas.
