Argentina Rain To Bolster Soil Moisture, Support Good Planting

Kansas City, October 21 (World Weather Inc.) – Early-season planting is ongoing in portions of Argentina. Much of nation’s primary grain and oilseed production region has been seeing alternating periods of rain and sunshine the past few weeks offering a mostly good environment for winter wheat and barley development and the planting and early development of sunseed and corn. Portions of central and western Argentina have been drying down recently and rain is needed. In the meantime, rain in the north this past week induced much better topsoil conditions after being dry for quite a while. A more frequent rainfall pattern is expected during the coming week that will improve the moisture profile in much of the nation and this improvement will occur as the nation prepares for soybean planting which begins next month – if it has not already started in some areas.

Weekly Citrus Weather for Tuesday, October 21, 2025

Kansas City, October 21 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus areas either received enough rain or had enough moisture to support good citrus conditions during the past week. The region will only have a few opportunities for spotty rain in the coming week, though production potentials will remain favorable. Mexico’s citrus areas will also remain favorable in the coming days despite the lack of rain in the northeast. Brazil’s citrus areas saw a good mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. Sao Paulo and southwestern Minas Gerais will trend drier than usual during the coming week. The need for significant rain will increase later this month into early November for most locations.

Tropical Storm Melissa Forms in Caribbean Sea

Kansas City, October 21 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Melissa has formed in the central Caribbean Sea and will be a slow moving storm for a few days while intensifying. It may have influence on Jamaica and Hispaniola where showers and strong thunderstorms and gusty surface wind is likely. The longer range outlook for the system is still up for debate, but a cold airmass moving through the United States next week may pick up the storm and eject it into the Atlantic Ocean after moving across the Greater Antilles.

Brazil Enters New Period of Drying After Erratic Weekend Rain

Kansas City, October 21 (World Weather Inc.) – As reported Friday, the Amazon River Basin continues to show much less convective activity than that which usually occurs in the second half of October. A change toward more stormy weather must occur to restore water supply in that basin, but also to feed moisture into center west and center south Brazil in support of soybeans, corn, rice, coffee, citrus, sugarcane, dry beans and other crops. Weekend rainfall coverage was probably the best seen in quite a while; however, rain amounts were disappointing in many areas. A full week of drier weather is now expected in center west and northern center south crop areas and that should translate into quick drying and additional stress for recently emerged crops that failed to get much rain. The drier bias will also slow additional planting, although at this point in time producers are likely to plant in the dust knowing that rain is sure to come soon.

Tropical Storm Fengshen To Help Resume Vietnam Flooding

Kansas City, October 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Fengshen tracked over the Philippines this past weekend causing windy conditions and excessive rain from the central Visayan Islands into southern Luzon Island. Some damage to crops and property was suspected, although not confirmed. The disturbance entered the South China Sea Sunday after moving through the central Philippines earlier in the weekend. The storm had weakened to depression status before coming out of the Philippines, but has since become a tropical storm once again. The storm will track near Hainan, China tonight into Tuesday morning and then turn to the southwest and begin weakening as it moves toward the central Vietnam coast. The storm has potential to produce heavy rain and flooding along with some landslides as the storm comes inland with some possible damage to crops, personal property and general infrastructure. Fengshen’s rain will just be a part of the coming week to ten days of nearly relentless rain that may culminate in horrific flooding similar to that which occurred in northern Vietnam earlier this season
