Northwest Africa Rain Well-Timed For Winter Wheat Planting

Kansas City, November 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Planting has likely begun in northwest Africa’s main winter grain and oilseed areas. While normal planting dates begin mid-October, several producers may be waiting for better rain before putting a significant amount of crop in the ground. Several areas in Morocco are still struggling from a multi-year drought that has impacted production. The main production areas will see a mix of erratic rainfall and sunshine through the end of next week that will offer “some” relief to the dryness. Short-term establishment conditions will improve, though much more rain will still be needed to support ideal long-term production potentials.

South Africa Planting Conditions Improve As Rain Continues

Kansas City, November 13 (World Weather Inc.) – Waves of rain during the past week continued to improve the moisture profile for South Africa’s summer coarse grain, oilseed, and cotton areas. Planting is underway in many areas with improving establishment conditions. Additional rain is still needed to completely fix the moisture deficits and support ideal long-term production potentials. Eastern and central South Africa will again see a good mix of rain and sunshine during the coming week. The rain will be welcome as planting continues for the main production areas. Winter wheat harvesting will also advance swiftly in western South Africa due to a lack of abundant rain. Minor Harvest delays will otherwise be possible in Free State.
