South Africa Rain Supporting Good Start To Growing Season

Kansas City, December 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Rainfall in South Africa this spring has been a little erratic leaving some areas a little drier than others. Overall, though, rain has been timely enough to support a good start to the growing season. A little better distribution of rain might be welcome to some areas. Planting, establishment and early season crop development has advanced relatively well for grain, oilseeds, cotton, sugarcane, citrus and other crops. Weather conditions are unlikely to change much in the next two weeks resulting in some continued erratic rainfall that may eventually require some greater amounts to ease a few drier pocketed areas. However, the bulk of the nation will continue to see favorable crop and field conditions.

France, Northwest Europe To Receive Timely Precipitation

Kansas City, December 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Moisture deficits are ongoing in portions of France and Spain. Several winter crops were planted under less than favorable conditions this past autumn, increasing the need for timely winter precipitation. Several areas in France outside the southeast corner of the country will see a good mix of precipitation and sunshine during the coming week. The moisture profile will improve in several of the driest fields, though many areas in the south will continue to struggle with moisture deficits. Much of Spain will otherwise receive little to no rain and will need significant precipitation later in the winter. Other areas in Western Europe will see a good mix of precipitation and sunshine during the coming week. Eastern Europe will only have a few opportunities for light precipitation. However, most locations have ample moisture to support good long-term winter crop prospects.

NW Africa To Receive Spotty Rain; Morocco Drought Remains

Kansas City, December 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Much of Northwest Africa’s main winter grain and oilseed areas received rain during the past week. While several of these areas saw precipitation trend near normal in recent months, there is still a pressing need for significant rain. Drought or abnormally dry conditions are prevailing, despite some improvement with southwestern Morocco and northwestern Algeria in a multi-year drought. The main production areas will see a good mix of rain and sunshine for the next seven to ten days; however, drought relief will be limited in southwestern Morocco. Rainfall will be welcome for establishment and early-season growth; though greater rain will be needed in some areas as planting continues.
