North America Weather Patterns Changing

Kansas City, December 17 (World Weather Inc.) – A notable early season stratospheric warming event that occurred in mid-November brought widespread snow and much colder temperatures to Canada, the north-central and eastern portions of the United States the past few weeks. The event displaced the polar vortex bringing much colder weather to portions of North America. The impact of these atmospheric changes has been substantial, but the effects are waning and the polar vortex is expected to relocate over the North Pole in the last days of December making the potential relatively good for a relaxing of the anomalous weather pattern allowing La Nina to have a little more influence until it too weakens and diminishes in January.

U.S. North Plains, Canada Prairies To See Excessive Wind, Snow

Kansas City, Dec. 17 (World Weather Inc.) – A strong area of low pressure will move along the U.S./Canada border today inducing excessive wind and blizzard conditions. The corridor of most-significant snow will extend across the central and southern parts of Canada’s Prairies while the strongest wind speeds occur from the southwestern Prairies into northwestern portions of U.S. hard red winter wheat production areas. The wind and snow will cause hazardous to nearly impossible travel conditions and serious livestock stress in parts of the region. Cold air that moves in behind this system will be significant in Canada and the northeastern U.S. Plains, but it will not be as brutally cold in the U.S. Midwest as it was this past weekend when the storm moves to the east Thursday and Friday.
