Brazil Weather To Stay Very Good For Late Beans, First Corn

Kansas City, January 12 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil’s main soybean, first-season corn, and other crops generally saw a good mix of rain and sunshine during the past week. Many areas in Sao Paulo and immediate neighboring locations only received light rain while many areas in Goias, northern and central Minas Gerais, and neighboring areas received several inches of moisture. Despite the imbalance of precipitation soil moisture was still rated quite favorably and rain will fall throughout the nation’s crop areas; including the drier areas this week to maintain a favorable environment for ongoing development.

Southern Argentina Will Continue To Dry Down This Week

Kansas City, January 12 (World Weather Inc.) – The northern half of Argentina’s production region saw several waves of rain during the past week. Southern Argentina also received some rain, though many areas failed to get enough rain to counter evaporation and are becoming too dry to support long-term production potentials. Southern Argentina will remain drier than usual this week and will continue to dry down. The lack of moisture is beginning to impact development rates and production potentials are beginning to decline and if the dryness lasts much longer some permanent losses may result. There is still time for crop improvements to benefit total production, but rain must fall soon. Central and northern Argentina will see a good mix of rain and sunshine this week. Crop conditions will remain relatively favorable.

Central U.S. Snowfall Protects Wheat From Weekend Chill

Kansas City, January 11 (World Weather Inc.) – U.S. hard red winter wheat areas and many soft wheat production areas in the Midwest, Delta and southeastern states all benefited from this past week’s precipitation event. The moisture may have been needed most in hard red winter wheat areas where weeks of limited precipitation and very warm temperatures had begun to raise concern for future crop development potential. Sufficient snow fell late last week after some beneficial rain was noted leaving the region in somewhat better condition than it was in prior to the event. The snow also protected wheat from colder temperatures during the weekend.
