Parts Of Western India To Receive Timely Rain

Kansas City, September 8 (World Weather Inc.) – Monsoonal rain was again unevenly distributed across India in recent weeks. The uneven and often poor rainfall this season promoted uneven crop conditions across the country. Many areas in western and southern India in particular experienced the harshest conditions due to drier or much drier than usual weather. Other production areas in eastern, central, and northern India saw more frequent precipitation and crop prospects are a little more favorable. Monsoonal rain will favor eastern and central India during the coming week. Development conditions will remain favorable. Maharashtra, western Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and portions of Gujarat, southeastern Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh will also see a good mix of rain and sunshine. Rainfall in the driest areas of western India will not be enough for ideal late-season growth and additional precipitation will be needed.

Canada Prairies In Dire Need Of Drier, Warmer Weather

Kansas City, September 8 (World Weather Inc.) – A strong upper-level low-pressure trough made its way into the Canadian Prairies in recent days. Significant rain lashed a large section of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and eastern and southern Alberta as the disturbance tracked into the region. Harvesting was already lagging ahead of this system and the rain will likely keep producers out of the fields for several more days. Scattered showers and thunderstorms will prevail today as the disturbance starts making its way out of the region. A frontal boundary will also generate erratic rainfall Wednesday into Friday. Additional rain may keep producers out of the fields or limit new harvesting. Drier weather will occur for some this weekend into early next week, though cooler weather will limit drying at times. Frost and light freezes will also be possible over the weekend and may impact crops that are not yet fully mature.

Kansas City, September 8 (World Weather, Inc.) – El Nino’s persistence is gradually allowing its negative influence around the world to expand and deepen. The single greatest El Nino-related weather problem area in the world today is Indonesia and all cacao production areas in that nation have been impacted by dryness and excessive heat. Relief is certainly not likely in a significant manner anytime soon. As expected, dryness has begun to evolve in west-central Africa cacao and coffee production areas as well. Ivory Coast 30-day rainfall totals have been well below normal and the same is true in southwestern Ghana. These areas are often influenced by persistent El Nino conditions and the odds are relatively high that dryness will be an ongoing issue into the fourth quarter of this calendar year. So far, weather in Ecuador, Brazil and Colombia has not been nearly as adverse as that in Indonesia, although rain has become more erratic and light.
