Argentina Excessive Rain, Flooding Harms Crops, Property

Kansas City, April 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Frequent bouts of excessive rain have been occurring in Argentina over the past few weeks making this an unusually wet month. Weekend rain was greatest in the northeast and southwest with torrents being reported in both regions resulting in serious flooding. The wet bias has been prevailing long enough to stall fieldwork in many areas and to raise crop quality issues for cotton in particular, but for unharvested sunseed and perhaps other crops like soybeans. Corn, soybeans and peanuts may be least impacted, but they have certainly been impacted as well. Northern and southern Argentina will see periods additional moderate to heavy rain through Friday before there is any hope for somewhat drier weather.

U.S. Late April Cooling To Bring Rain Into Delta, Southeast

Kansas City, April 20 (World Weather Inc.) – A weekend cold airmass moving across the northern United States has brought frost and freezes to the Pacific Northwest, the northern and western Great Plains and northern Midwest. The cold will concentrate on New England and the Middle Atlantic Coast States tonight. A short-term bout of warming is then expected with well above normal temperatures possible again in the central United States just before a new surge of late April and early May cooling takes place. The cooler air advertised for the last days of April and early May should push a couple of frontal systems into the drought-stricken Delta and southeastern states offering to stir up some shower and thunderstorm activity that will bring much needed relief. Dryness should resume later in May after the cold abates.
