Some Brazil Safrinha Crops Need Rain; Not All Will Get It

Kansas City, April 23 (World Weather Inc.) – Monsoonal rainfall has abated from Brazil and at the end of the rainy season soil conditions in parts of center west were not completely saturated which is necessary to ensure sufficient moisture to carry corn and cotton through reproduction without moisture stress, assuming normal temperatures. Today’s crop ratings in center west are very good, but the region is expected to be a little warmer than usual with limited rainfall for a while which may lead to crop moisture stress. In the meantime, southern Safrinha corn areas in Parana, southern Mato Grosso do Sul and southwestern Sao Paulo have been dealing with a shortage of moisture for a few weeks. Rain potentials are improving for Parana, Paraguay and a few immediate neighboring areas during the coming ten days; though, a close watch on the rain distribution is warranted since some areas may be missed by the moisture or get much less than other areas. The need for timely rain will increase in May for those areas that are low on soil moisture and will miss meaningful moisture in the next ten days.

Australia’s Winter Grain, Oilseed Areas Need Rain

Kansas City, April 22 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter grain and oilseed planting is usually underway either late in April or May for Australia. Precipitation was limited during the past week for much of crop country. With at least another week of dry weather or limited precipitation in store, early-season planting may get off to a sluggish start until rain potentials increase. Western Australia will still see periods of light rain through the middle of next week, though the greatest amount will occur outside the main production areas. Concern remains in Australia over the developing El Nino event expected later this year since that may cut into winter, spring and summer crop production potentials in some areas.
