Center-West Brazil Safrinha Corn, Cotton Drying; Rain Needed

Kansas City, April 29 (World Weather Inc.) – Some shower and thunderstorm activity occurred recently in western and southern Brazil benefiting some Safrinha corn and cotton areas. Many areas in Goias, eastern Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, and Sao Paulo missed the precipitation. With moisture reserves still trending a little lower than usual for this time of year in many Safrinha corn and cotton production areas, there is need for late-season rainfall. Precipitation through the middle of next week will favor southern Brazil not the areas that need it most. Western and parts of northern Parana will have adequate moisture to support relatively favorable development for a little while. However, the balance of center-west and center-south Brazil will see drier and warmer than usual conditions inducing aggressive drying and raising the potential for moisture stress later in the growing season. There could be a few opportunities for spotty rain in center-west and center-south Brazil during the second week of the outlook; however, much of the resulting rainfall will be too light to ensure a good long term crop prospects especially for corn.
