China Rainfall Will Be Welcome For Most

Kansas City, June 1 (World Weather Inc.) – The moisture profile for China’s main agricultural regions is relatively favorable. Waves of rain bolstered or kept soil moisture at adequate to excessive levels during the past week with a few exceptions for pockets of northern China. Additional rain this week will keep the ground saturated near and south of the Yangtze River with localized flooding a concern. Crop and structural damage should be minimal, though planting and general fieldwork may advance slowly. Northern China, the central Yellow River Basin, and northern sections of the North China Plain will see a good mix of rain and sunshine as well. The environment will be favorable for aggressive establishment and early-season growth for the coarse grains, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops produced in these locations. Maturation and harvesting of winter wheat will likely advance the rain as well in the North China Plain.

Weekend Headliners: Typhoon Jangmi, Russia Frost And West Texas Rain

Kansas City, May 31 (World Weather Inc.) – Not many surprises occurred during the weekend. However, there were a few areas of greater interest that should at least be reviewed. The first is Typhoon Jangmi which is expected to impact parts of Japan this week. Another interesting weekend weather event was frost in western Russia, although the impact on agriculture should have been low. North Africa drying continues which is not much of an issue for crops in Morocco and northwestern Algeria which are being harvested, but late season wheat and barley in Tunisia have likely lost some yield potential and quality. In the meantime, West Texas is finally going to get a soaking rain this week just before dry weather resumes next week.
