South Africa Production Potentials Remain Favorable

Kansas City, January 11 (World Weather Inc.) – Frequent rainfall has kept soil moisture rated favorably across South Africa’s main production areas during the past week. Production potentials are favorable, as well, this season due to the timely rain over much of the growing season. Erratic rainfall will persist for much of crop country during the coming week with periods of significant rain expected in eastern South Africa. Localized flooding will be the main concern, though crop damage should be minimal. The environment will otherwise remain favorable for aggressive growth.

Morocco, Eastern Spain Still Suffering From Dryness

Kansas City, January 11 (World Weather Inc.) – Spotty rainfall in recent days was not enough to significantly improve the moisture profile for much of Morocco and Spain. Morocco and portions of northwestern Algeria have suffered from a multi-year drought with another season of lower than normal winter grain production expected. Eastern Spain is also struggling with dryness and needs improved rainfall to promote better prospects for winter crops. Other locations in Spain, Algeria, and Tunisia received timely rain in recent weeks that has helped support better conditions for wheat, barley and a few other crops. Morocco, northwestern Algeria, and much of eastern and southern Spain will trend dry or mostly dry during the coming week. Concern remains over ongoing dryness because of its possible impact on water supply winter crop yields. Tunisia and other areas in Algeria will also trend drier than normal, though they should have sufficient moisture to support new growth.
