Western CIS Dryness May Impact Winter Grain Planting

Kansas City, September 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Drier and warmer than normal weather has kept the ground firm in Russia’s ‘Southern Region’ and Volga River Basin, Ukraine, and neighboring areas in recent weeks. The lack of rain and warm weather expedited maturation and early-season harvesting of summer grain and oilseeds, though production was cut in several locations due to lack of moisture late in the growing season. These areas will remain drier and warmer biased for at least another week. Harvesting and general fieldwork will continue with few disruptions. Concern over delayed planting and poor establishment of winter grain and oilseeds will otherwise increase. The ground will remain too dry to support ideal establishment and producers may wait until rain potentials increase before putting additional crop into the ground.

Super Typhoon Yagi Will Reach Southwest China Friday

Kansas City, September 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Super Typhoon Yagi continued to intensify while tracking over the South China Sea in recent days. The storm has likely reached its peak of intensity and will begin to weaken as it moves toward southwestern China and northeastern Vietnam. Outer rain bands from the storm will reach eastern Hainan and southwestern Guangdong tonight. Torrential rain will then lash the southern halves of Guangxi and Yunnan, southwestern Guangdong, and northern Vietnam Friday and Saturday. The disturbance will rapidly weaken while tracking across southwestern China and northern Vietnam both days and will eventually dissipate by Sunday morning in northern Vietnam. Severe flooding and landslides are expected with many areas also experiencing damaging wind speeds as the disturbance makes landfall. Significant damage to crops and property is inevitable especially in southwestern China

Upper U.S. Midwest Cold To Have Low Impact On Crops

Kansas City, September 5 (World Weather Inc.) – Cold air continues to push into the upper Midwest today from Canada. It will be the coldest airmass of the season and it should settle into Wisconsin Minnesota and upper Michigan Saturday morning. A part of northeastern Iowa and northwestern Illinois will also feel the coolness as will all other areas in the Midwest later in the weekend. Soft frost is expected in soybean and corn production areas of Wisconsin and a few areas in eastern and northern Minnesota as well as upper Michigan. The impact on crops is expected to be low unless the temperatures get colder than expected. There is potential for a pocket or two of near freezing temperatures in Wisconsin.
