U.S. Plains Drought Likely To Expand, Intensify

Kansas City, July 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Precipitation was highly variable across the United States during the past week. The southern Plains and Delta into the southeastern states and southern Midwest, along with portions of Montana, saw a good mix of rain and sunshine. The central and northern Plains into other locations in the Midwest were dry or received limited rainfall. Grain, oilseed, cotton, and other crop conditions are generally good from the heart of the Midwest and Delta into portions of the southeastern states that have seen drought eased or reduced this summer. Summer crop conditions are otherwise variable in the Plains and Carolinas due to ongoing dryness. A high-pressure ridge will help restrict rain across the Plains, western Corn Belt, and Delta through the end of next week. The Delta and western Corn Belt will have some moisture to support new growth while aggressive drying is slated for the Plains. Crop conditions may deteriorate in the driest locations. The central and eastern Midwest into southeastern states will see a good mix of rain and sunshine. Development conditions will either improve or remain relatively favorable.

Brazil Safrinha Harvest Weather Good; Far South To Be Wetter

Kansas City, July 16 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil’s safrinha corn harvest is a little behind compared to the average harvest rate during the previous five-years. Conditions during the past week were relatively favorable for aggressive maturation and harvesting in the main production areas. Dry and warm weather will maintain a good environment for harvesting for at least the next seven days. In the meantime, winter wheat planting is nearing completion in the south where more frequent and abundant rain is predicted over the coming week that may lead to local flooding.

Argentina Rain Will Be Welcome For Winter Wheat, Barley

Kansas City, July 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Although soybean harvesting is generally complete in Argentina, coarse grain and other oilseed harvesting will not be complete for a few more weeks. Conditions for maturation and harvesting were relatively favorable during the past week due to dry or mostly dry weather outside the southern Pampas farming region. Winter wheat and barley planting is ongoing and conditions are relatively favorable. Argentina will see a mix of erratic rain and sunshine during the coming week with the most significant rain occurring in the east. The rain may slow or delay harvesting, winter grain planting, and general fieldwork. No significant quality impacts are expected for the summer grains and oilseeds, though drier weather will be needed later this month to improve harvest conditions. The outlook for the winter grains will remain favorable due to the additional rain.
