Weekly Citrus Weather For September 17, 2024

Kansas City, September 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region continued to see a good environment for tree and fruit development due to frequent rainfall and irrigation. With more rain on the way during the coming week, the outlook will remain relatively good for much of the crop. Mexico’s citrus areas received frequent rainfall during the past week as well. The rain slowed harvesting and likely improved some of late season fruit quality in the wettest locations in Veracruz. The main production areas will continue to receive rain on a frequent basis during the coming week. Harvesting will advance slowly in areas that get frequent rain, but much of the harvest occurs in the dry season and not now. Brazil’s main citrus areas will remain drier and warmer biased during the coming week. The environment will be less than favorable for the early-flowering citrus.

Australia Frost, Freezes Raise Concern Over Production

Kansas City, September 17 (World Weather Inc.) – Unusually cold weather was noted in portions of southeastern Australia during the past week. Frost and freezes occurred in many areas of New South Wales, southeastern Queensland, Victoria and southeastern South Australia. The coldest weather occurred in the Great Dividing Range, but some crops areas near and to the west of the region also experienced some very chilly temperatures. There is some debate over the significance of the frost and freeze event and World Weather, Inc. believes the any lost yield should be kept low. In the meantime, there is already some concern over lost production from Queensland due to hot and dry conditions during reproduction. Weather in the next week should provide a good mix of moisture and sunshine in Victoria and South Australia while Western Australia, Queensland, and New South Wales receive little to no rain.
