Argentina Drought Eased; Dryness South To Linger Longer

Kansas City, October 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Northern and central Argentina received much-needed rain during the past week that started to improve the moisture profile. Early-season planting prospects were less than favorable heading into October due to severe dryness, most notably in the western production areas. While the recent rain helped improve early-season planting and establishment, additional rain is needed to completely fix the moisture deficits. Southern Argentina was mostly dry during the past week and needs abundant rainfall. Northern and central Argentina will again have several opportunities for rain this week while drier than normal weather persists in the south. Planting conditions will further improve outside Buenos Aires and neighboring locations.

Brazil Planting To Expand As Rain Persists

Kansas City, October 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Soybean and first-season corn planting remains behind the usual pace due to the late onset of seasonal rainfall in some of the main production areas of center-west and center-south Brazil. Timely rain during the past week improved establishment conditions and additional rain this week will further increase soil moisture. Southern Brazil has ample moisture to support aggressive establishment and early-season development for soybeans and first-season corn. Additional rain this week will continue to support a good outlook for the crops. In the meantime, winter wheat harvesting is expected to expand across southern Brazil in coming weeks. The rain may slow maturation and early-season harvesting, though no major quality declines are expected.

China Winter Wheat Areas To Receive Timely Rain

Kansas City, October 11 (World Weather Inc.) – China’s summer crop harvest is well underway. Harvest conditions were favorable in a large section of crop country during the past week and significant progress was likely made. Winter wheat planting is likely underway as well in portions of the North China Plain and central Yellow River Basin. Planting advanced with generally good conditions in recent days. However, several locations are too dry to support ideal long-term crop conditions. Scattered showers will often evolve in the main winter wheat areas through the end of next week and wheat conditions will improve or remain favorable. In the meantime, some needed relief is also expected in the Yangtze River Basin where drought has prevailed for months.
