Excessive Northern California Rain Event May Be Repeated

Kansas City, November 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Northern California is bracing for a succession of storm systems that will produce frequent heavy rain and flooding during the coming week. The storms will also impact Oregon and some neighboring areas. The stormy pattern is associated with southward moving cold air dropping through the Gulf of Alaska that will run into some warm and very moist air between Hawaii and the mainland U.S. Pacific Coast. The pattern will induce some serious flooding and it could repeat at times during the winter as long as ocean surface temperatures are significantly warm.

Eastern Australia Rain Beneficial For Summer Grains, Oilseeds

Kansas City, November 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria received timely rain during the past week. While the rain was not enough to completely fix the moisture deficits, it was welcome to support improved establishment and early-season development for grain, oilseeds, cotton, and other crops planted this time of year in eastern Australia. Queensland will again see a good mix of rain and sunshine this week that will further improve summer crop conditions. New South Wales and Victoria will otherwise trend drier than normal and the need for rain will remain high for summer crops, but a great winter crop harvest environment will resume. Western Australia will receive rain periodically this week which may delay harvesting, but no harm to crop quality is anticipated.

Brazil Dryness To Be Confined to Southern Sao Paulo, Parana

Kansas City, November 18 (World Weather Inc.) – Planting of the soybeans, first-season corn, and other crops advanced swiftly in much of Brazil during the past week. Conditions remained favorable for establishment and early-season growth as rain kept soil moisture at favorable levels. The main production areas will again have several opportunities for rain this week, though portions of Parana and Sao Paulo will trend drier than normal. Planting will continue despite periods of rain. Crop prospects will remain favorable despite many areas in Parana and Sao Paulo trending drier than normal. Winter wheat harvesting will also continue for southern Brazil, though some minor delays will be possible in the wettest locations of Rio Grande do Sul.

China Winter Wheat, Rapeseed Weather Favorable

Kansas City, November 15 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter wheat planting should be wrapping up in China’s North China Plain, the main producer of wheat in the country. Winter rapeseed planting is ongoing in China’s Yangtze River Basin with normal planting dates continuing into December. Timely precipitation in recent weeks helped support relatively favorable establishment conditions in the main winter crop production areas, although portions of the Yangtze River Basin still have some moisture deficits after a long drier biased finish to the growing season. With more rain expected in the coming days, the outlook for the upcoming season will remain favorable. No major planting delays are expected in the Yangtze River Basin due to the additional precipitation.
