Tropical Cyclone To Impact Southern India

Kansas City, November 29 (World Weather Inc.) – A tropical disturbance has been slowly spinning over the southwestern Bay of Bengal in recent days, promoting rain in portions of Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh, India. The disturbance will continue to meander around the region through the end of the weekend before finally entering southern India during the first part of next week. Rain will often be scattered across southern India during the next several days before the disturbance potentially shifts into the Arabian Sea later next week. Localized flooding is a concern along the Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh coastlines. Crop and structural damage should be minimal. However, planting of India’s rabi crops may be slowed or delayed in the wettest locations.

Northwest Africa Rain Will Be Limited; Need For Moisture High

Kansas City, November 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Northern Tunisia and extreme northeastern Algeria received mostly light rain during the past week, though not enough was noted to significantly improve the moisture profile. Severe moisture deficits otherwise persist in much of northwestern Africa’s winter grain and oilseed areas. The need for rain remains high as normal planting dates continue through early January. Precipitation will be limited through the middle of next week and the moisture profile will remain mostly unchanged. There is potential for increased rainfall in Tunisia and Algeria during the second week of the outlook that could marginally bolster soil moisture. However, the outlook for the main production areas will remain less than favorable going forward into the middle of December.
