Mexico Drought Ongoing In Northwest; Some Spread Likely

Kansas City, January 15 (World Weather Inc.) – A large section of northwestern Mexico and neighboring areas remained in under the influence of drought after continuing drier-than-normal weather during the past month. The region produces a significant amount of winter wheat, dry beans and corn, along with some other grains, oilseeds, fruits and vegetables. The environment remained less than favorable to poor for new growth, most notably in dryland areas. The remaining production areas in Mexico are drought-free due to timely rain in recent weeks. Production potentials for winter crops remain favorable in irrigated areas, but rain must fall soon for the drier areas and the next ten days will remain much drier than usual. Drought will prevail and may spread and intensify over time.
