Far Northern India Will Receive Timely Rain

Kansas City, January 29 (World Weather Inc.) – India’s rabi crop conditions are generally good outside portions of eastern and northern India. Northern India and portions of Rajasthan received much-needed rain earlier this month and additional rain is slated for these locations late this weekend into the first part of next week. The additional rain will maintain relatively good conditions for the rabi crops, though additional rain would be welcome later in February. Many areas in eastern India will otherwise need timely rain later in February to ensure a favorable outlook for the rabi crops.

China Rapeseed Receives Much-Needed Rain; More Rain On The Way

Kansas City, January 28 (World Weather Inc.) – A disturbance brought much-needed precipitation to portions of China during the past week. Precipitation was greatest in Henan, Hubei, and neighboring locations and helped improve the moisture profile for future rapeseed development. However, the driest areas in southern China (where early rice and corn planting normally occurs in March) only received light rain and moisture deficits persist. The Yangtze River Basin will again see a good mix of precipitation and sunshine during the coming week that will maintain a good outlook for rapeseed. Southern China will have a few opportunities for erratic rainfall as well; though, the rain will be too light to fix the dryness and more rain will be needed later in February as early-planting dates approach.

Returning Brazil Rain Intensity To Reverse Improving Trend

Kansas City, January 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Brazil’s soybeans, first-season corn, and other crops received enough rain during the past week to maintain aggressive growth. Production is expected to be high this season due to the rain and an expansion of soybean planted acreage compared to recent years. The main concern for the crop is sluggish harvesting for the earliest planted crops. Waves of rain slowed the maturation and early harvest earlier this month, but for about five days in the past week conditions did improve in center west and perhaps the next set of statistical harvest data may reveal a little more progress. Rain will resume later this week into early next week causing a setback in the drying trend and raising more concern about field progress. The greatest rain in the coming week is slated for Minas Gerais, Goias and neighboring areas, including some Mato Grosso production areas. Early-season harvesting of soybeans and the planting of both Safrinha cotton and corn will be slowed once again. There is some potential for better conditions near mid-month.

Argentina Still Struggling With Dryness Despite Erratic Rain

Kansas City, January 27 (World Weather Inc.) – The main production areas in Argentina received varying amounts of rain during the past week. While the rain was welcome where it fell, several locations did not receive enough to significantly improve the moisture profile. Much of Argentina is struggling with dryness and in need of more significant rain. Concern is already high for a reduction in yields due to the lack of rain. The northern half of crop country and much of Cordoba will see a good mix of rain and sunshine this week that will offer some relief to the dryness. The remaining production areas will trend drier than usual. Moisture deficits will persist in much of the Pampas farming region and the need for rain will remain high heading into mid-February.
