Canada, Europe Impact from Stratospheric Warming To Be Low

Kansas City, March 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Plenty of hype has been given to the amazing warm up that is suddenly occurring in the stratosphere this week. Stratospheric warming and its potential impact on the polar vortex will be substantial. However, the impact from the current event is going to prove disappointing to the energy trade because the cold air feared to reach into North America and Europe will likely prove to be less intensive and persistent than predicted and the big draw on supplement heating fuel (whether it is natural gas, heating oil or electricity) will probably fail to evolve. Cooling is likely, but the impact will be low.

South Africa Weather Still Good For Late Season Crops

Kansas City, March 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain was scattered across South Africa’s main summer grain, oilseed and cotton production areas during the past week. The rain helped maintain a good environment for aggressive crop development, although a few unirrigated fields in the northwest continued a little too dry. Some peanut harvesting may be underway; though, the bulk harvesting for all crops will occur in from Late April through mid-winter. South Africa will see a good mix of rain and dry weather during the coming week. Rainfall will help keep soil moisture at favorable levels for aggressive development. Yield potentials will remain favorable except possibly in a few dryland production areas in the northwest where low soil moisture has prevailed this summer.

Australia Early Summer Grain, Oilseed Harvest To Advance Swiftly

Kansas City, March 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Harvesting is underway in some of the early season summer grain and oilseed production areas in Australia with cotton harvesting to begin at the end of this month and in early April. The main production areas in eastern Australia were dry or received minimal rain during the past week. Maturation and harvest conditions were generally favorable as a result of the dryness. Spotty rain will occur at times in portions of New South Wales, Victoria, and southeastern Queensland through the middle of next week. In the meantime, there will be no major impacts from Tropical Cyclone Alfred as it enters eastern Australia near Brisbane, Queensland today and prevails for a few days. Minor harvest delays will be possible, though no major impacts are expected.
