South Africa Will Start To Dry Down After Wet Weather

Kansas City, April 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Wetter-than-usual weather has hampered portions of South Africa in recent weeks. Corn and other coarse grains and oilseeds are maturing and getting ready for harvest. While late-season development conditions were favorable due to the rain, the need for drier weather is high in order to support better maturation and harvesting. South Africa will now enter a period of drier weather for at least the next week. Brief periods of light rain will still occur, most notably toward the middle of next week. Net drying is still expected and should promote better maturation and early-season harvesting.

Russia, Ukraine Will See Limited Rain; Wheat Prospects Better

Kansas City, April 25 (World Weather Inc.) – The main winter grain and oilseed locations in Russia, Ukraine, and western Kazakhstan received limited rain during the past week. Crop conditions improved following timely precipitation in late March and earlier this month, though the need for rain is again increasing to support the best possible development. The main production areas will only have a few opportunities for spotty precipitation during the coming week. Drying rates will be lower during the periods of rain, though a large section of crop country will not receive enough precipitation to significantly bolster soil moisture. Timely rain will be important during the first half of May to limit potential production impacts due to drying soil. Summer grains and oilseeds will also need to see more significant rain to support establishment and early-season growth.
