South Africa Harvest Prospects Improving

Kansas City, May 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Weeks of wet weather raised concern for the South Africa summer crop harvest. The ground has been saturated in many areas possibly resulting in some oilseed and cotton quality declines. A period of drier weather is now slated for South Africa for at least the next week to ten days. The lack of rain and warm daytime temperatures will firm the ground and support better harvesting and fieldwork prospects. Early-season planting of the winter grains and oilseeds will also advance with few disruptions.

Australia Dryness Benefits Harvest; Rain Needed For Planting

Kansas City, May 1 (World Weather Inc.) – New South Wales and Victoria saw periods of rain during the past week that may have briefly disrupted the harvest of the summer crops. No major delays or quality impacts were suspected. Queensland otherwise experienced more favorable weather for the harvest despite some spotty rain in the south. Eastern Australia will trend mostly dry during the coming week. The lack of rain and warm daytime temperatures should support a good environment for aggressive harvesting and fieldwork. In the meantime, early-season planting prospects for the winter wheat, barley, and canola are relatively favorable in New South Wales and portions of Queensland, central Victoria, and southern Western Australia due to periodic rain in recent weeks. The lack of rain recently across southern Australia may support favorable planting conditions, though significant rain is still needed in parts of South Australia, Western Australia, and western Victoria before planting and germination can begin.
