Mainland SE Asia Rain To Bolster Crop Development Potential

Kansas City, May 7 (World Weather Inc.) – Moisture shortages prevail in portions of mainland Southeast Asia despite spotty rainfall during the past week. Early-season planting prospects for the rice, corn, and other crops remain less than ideal because of dryness and the need for rain remains high. Some of the sugarcane produced across Thailand is also not developing well following a very dry finish to the rainy season last year. The region will experience more frequent and significant rain through the middle of next week as the beginning of monsoon season approaches. This surge of precipitation will bolster soil moisture and improve planting and establishment conditions in much of mainland Southeast Asia. Prospects for the rice, corn, sugarcane, and other crops will improve across the region.

Weekly Citrus Weather for Tuesday, May 6, 2025

Kansas City, May 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus areas finally saw some spotty rainfall during the past week. Precipitation was too light to fix the drought and additional rain is still needed to support ideal citrus conditions. An unusually wet weather bias is slated for Florida during the coming week. Rain will continue to improve soil moisture and may be enough to break the drought, at least in parts of citrus country. Brazil’s citrus areas received limited rainfall during the past week and will remain drier than usual in the coming week. The main citrus areas will still have enough moisture to support new growth. In Mexico, the east-central and northeastern production areas will again see a good mix of rain and sunshine during the coming week. Citrus development conditions will improve or remain favorable.

India Rain Slows Harvest, Raises Quality Concern

Kansas City, May 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Unusually great amounts of rain have impacted parts of northern India recently disrupting winter crop maturation and harvest progress. The moisture throughout India was welcome for late winter crops in the east and south and also for the early cotton crop that is being planted in the north. A disturbance will continue to generate rain and thunderstorms for Gujarat, southern Rajasthan and neighboring locations during the next several days at a time when conditions are usually dry and hot. The rain will limit excessive heating while also potentially improving pre-monsoon planting conditions. Many areas in southern, extreme eastern and far northern India will also see periods of rain during the coming week that may linger as normal planting dates approach. Late-season harvesting of winter crops and general fieldwork should advance around the periods of rain.

World Wheat Weather For May 6, 2025

Kansas City, May 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Drought has evolved in a part of east-central China and the below normal rainfall that has prevailed in recent weeks and months has brought much speculation to the overall condition of wheat and its production potential. A large part of the China crop is irrigated, but that which is not will lose some production potential. Very warm to hot weather is expected next week as the crop finishes reproduction and fills which may be stressful for many crops – both irrigated and not irrigated. In the meantime, wheat conditions have improved and will improve additionally near the Black Sea. Conditions in the U.S. have not been ideal with some flood damage in Oklahoma and in the lower Midwest and Delta. In the meantime, a close watch on Australia is under way because of a limited rainfall outlook for the next ten days. Argentina is expected to have a good year and there are parts of Europe that could run into some dryness, although that is not a sure thing.
