North China Plain, Central Yellow River Basin Will Continue To Dry Down

Kansas City, May 28 (World Weather Inc.) – Despite some spotty rain during the past week, dryness prevails for a large portion of China’s North China Plain and central Yellow River Basin. Much of the rain that fell was either lost to evaporation or too light to impact long-term soil conditions. Precipitation will remain limited for at least another ten days with temperatures gradually rising above normal. The ground will remain too dry or become that way to support unirrigated spring and summer crop emergence, and establishment. Winter wheat will be sped to maturity with quick harvesting to follow. Areas near and south of the Yangtze River, along with Northeast China, will otherwise see a good mix of rain and sunshine through the middle of next week resulting in a relatively favorable environment for planting and general development.

Mainland SE Asia Soil Moisture Improving; More Rain Coming

Kansas City, May 27 (World Weather Inc.) – After drying down significantly earlier this spring, waves of rain in mainland Southeast Asia slowly improved the moisture profile during the past month stimulating more aggressive crop development and better planting and establishment conditions. Additional rain during the coming week will keep soil moisture rated favorably in much of the region, although parts of Vietnam need greater rain. The outlook for planting and establishment will remain good. In the meantime, portions of Indonesia and Malaysia were slightly drier than usual in recent weeks. Portions of Sumatra will remain drier-biased for at least the next seven days and a boost in precipitation would be welcome later in June.

Brazil Safrinha Crops To Benefit Greatly From Late Season Rain

Kansas City, May 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Late planted Safrinha corn and cotton have been running a risk of lower production because of dry and warm weather that often occurs from late April through the winter. This year’s temperatures have not been as hot as feared by the industry and subsoil moisture has been maintained at an adequate to slightly short levels keeping crop development advancing better than expected up until now. Rain is predicted tonight and Wednesday ending Thursday from western Mato Grosso through all of Mato Grosso do Sul and into Parana and Sao Paulo resulting in a welcome respite from recent drying. Late planted crops, especially corn, will benefit most of the precipitation event that will not only be good for these Brazilian states, but also in southeastern Paraguay. The event will likely improve production potentials sufficiently to further minimize potential production cuts because of late planting.

Weekly Citrus Weather for May 27, 2025

Kansas City, May 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Florida’s citrus region saw several waves of rain during the past week that helped improve the moisture profile. Additional rain during the coming week will further bolster soil moisture and continue to chip away at the dryness that evolved earlier this spring. Citrus conditions will remain favorable. Mexico’s citrus areas also received early rain during the past week with more on the way in the coming days. Citrus development conditions will improve or remain favorable. Brazil’s citrus areas will have a few opportunities for light and erratic rain during the coming week. No major harvest delays are expected.
