NW U.S. Corn Belt Rain Next Week Extremely Important

Kansas City, June 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Soil moisture is running low across a small, but important, part of the northwestern Corn and Soybean Belt. This weekend’s heat wave will exacerbate the situation raising the importance of significant rain falling in the region next week. Most computer forecast models have suggested rain will fall from eastern Nebraska and southeastern South Dakota into Iowa, southern Minnesota and neighboring states. By the time next week’s rain is due to begin soil conditions in a part of the described region will be running very short in the topsoil and short to very short in the subsoil. Crop and livestock stress will be on the rise as well. Confidence is high that the timely rain event will occur as advertised, but if it fails the region could be thrust into a more threatening environment for this year’s production.

Mid-South U.S. Drying To Be Closely Monitored

Kansas City, June 20 (World Weather Inc.) – Wet weather in the Mid-South region of the United States has been quite impressive this year with some parts of the Delta, Tennessee River Basin, Kentucky and Oklahoma each reporting record or near record rainfall at various times during the spring. Weather pattern changes forthcoming over this next week will bring the region some beneficial drying. The beneficial drying can probably occur over a week to ten days without disturbing too many folks, but there is potential that drying will become longer lasting and the region needs to be closely monitored for late summer dryness issues.
