Canadian Prairies Agricultural Weather Prognosticator For June 29, 2025
Canada’s Prairies are far from out of trouble this year. Dryness is still a serious problem in eastern and some southern parts of the region as well as in the Peace River Region. This prognosticator is probably too bullish on rain. The outlook tries to reflect the potential for localized areas of beneficial moisture, but it is likely too wet in general. A high pressure ridge is expected over the Prairies late in the first week of July and on into the second week. Heat and dryness will return crop moisture stress in many areas that were relieved in June and worsen conditions in areas that missed the rain. A mid-month update may reduce rain in many areas, but an assessment of the high pressure ridge expected in the second week of July is needed first. Inside this report you will also find updated soil moisture maps for various places around the world and special reports on the U.S., Australia and South America.
Tropical Storm To Reach Mexico South of Tampico Sunday Night

Kansas City, June 29 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Barry formed over the far western part of the Gulf of Mexico during the weekend and was expected to move inland over east-central Mexico south of Tampico tonight. The storm has likely peaked in intensity with 45 mph sustained wind speeds near its center; however, gale force wind was occurring quite some distance to the east of the storm center in the western Gulf of Mexico along with considerable rain, strong thunderstorms and rough seas. The system will dissipate over northeastern Mexico early this week and the moisture from the system will get pulled into the southwestern United States where it will supplement rain in portions of the Plains and Midwest later this week. In the meantime, Tropical Storm Flossie will become a hurricane off the southwestern coast of Mexico this week.
Canadian Prairies Rain Brings Relief To Some Areas, Not All

Kansas City, June 27 (World Weather Inc.) – Last weekend’s rain event in portions of Canada’s Prairies was a Godsend for many producers and their crops easing a notable shortage of soil moisture and greatly reducing plant stress. As great as the precipitation event was, however, the region still has moisture shortages down deep in the ground warranting follow up moisture soon. The greatest relief occurred in the west and north leaving many areas in southern and east-central Saskatchewan and Manitoba in need of additional moisture. Some production has already been cut from the southwestern Prairies because of crop failings prior to the rain event and there are other fields of wheat, lentils and peas that will yield poorly because of previous dryness. Additional crop injury came with the past week of frost and light freezes that also impacted the region after the rain event.
