India Planting Ahead Of Usual Due To Monsoonal Rain

Kansas City, July 7 (World Weather Inc.) – India’s monsoon got off to a good start in June, prompting aggressive planting in some of the main production areas. Several locations outside portions of southern and extreme eastern India received above normal rainfall in recent weeks and there is ample moisture to support favorable establishment and early-season growth. However, many areas in southern India are too dry for ideal long-term crop conditions and the need for rain remains high. Monsoonal rain will favor a large section of crop country outside southern India and western Rajasthan this week. Flash flooding will be a growing concern for Madhya Pradesh and neighboring locations as a monsoonal disturbance helps promote periods of heavy rain during the next few days. Production potentials will otherwise remain mostly unchanged.

Depression Chantal Brings Heavy Rain To North Carolina

Kansas City, July 6 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Storm Chantal came ashore over the upper South Carolina coast early this morning and has since decreased to tropical depression status. Heavy rain has occurred along the storm’s path and additional rain is predicted for central North Carolina and a few neighboring areas through the first half of this week. The storm will produce local flooding, but no wind damage or serious impact on agriculture is anticipated.

Canada Prairies Trending Drier Again After Needed June Rain

Kansas City, July 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Precipitation across Canada’s Prairies has drifted back into an erratic pattern of mostly light rain over the past week to ten days after an extremely important rain event occurred June 21-24. That rain event saved much of the crop from imminent disaster after many weeks of dryness earlier in the spring. Concern is quickly rising across the Prairies again over the return of light and erratic rainfall which is predicted to prevail through the middle part of this month outside of western Alberta. June’s beneficial rain event was not evenly dispersed and some areas were either missed by the rain or received only light amounts and the return of drier weather is quickly returning a growing degree of plant and farmer stress over the potential for additional relief. Some production cut has already occurred from harsh weather earlier this year and this new round of dry weather will raise the potential for more losses.

U.S. Soil Moisture, Rainfall To Carry Crops Into Late July

Kansas City, July 3 (World Weather Inc.) – Weather in the United States, and in most areas around the world, can turn around in a very short period of time during the summer due to warm temperatures and quick drying. However, this year’s weather pattern is likely to maintain a favorable outlook for corn, soybean and other spring and summer crops from the Great Plains into the Midwest into late July. Weather over the next ten days to two weeks should be sufficient enough to maintain a favorable moisture profile down deep into the ground for the next two weeks protecting corn development potentials unless there is some kind of unexpected heat wave that evolves and prevails. August weather will be more important for soybeans, sorghum and cotton than July weather.
