Philippines Flooding To Take Short Break; More Rain Likely

Kansas City, July 25 (World Weather Inc.) – Rain in western Luzon Island in the past seven days has been torrential and the flooding horrific. A part of the Manila area reported 39.6 inches during the 7-day period ending 0001 UTC today. The remainder of western Luzon had reported 13-34 inches of rain and flooding this week was widespread and damaging. Tropical Cyclone Co-may (Emong) was responsible for the latest round of heavy rain, but the skies have cleared temporarily and the excessive moisture should begin draining out of the region. However, more heavy rain is likely next week in the same areas.

Australia’s Winter Crop Areas To Receive Much-Needed Rain

Kansas City, July 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Winter wheat, barley, and canola production potentials are highly variable across Australia this season due to an uneven and often poor distribution of rainfall since April. Many areas in Queensland, New South Wales, and pockets in Victoria and South Australia have been drier or much drier than normal for months and many crops were planted in dry soil. Minor production potential losses may have already occurred due to the lack of rain so far this growing season. A series of disturbances will bring timely rain to a large section of Australia’s main production areas during the coming week. While rainfall will be too light to completely fix the moisture deficits in the driest fields, development conditions will improve for at least the short-term. Additional rain will still be needed in August to further improve production potentials.

East-Central China Dryness Expanding

Kansas City, July 24 (World Weather Inc.) – Portions of Henan, northern Anhui, and neighboring locations missed out on rain during the past week and continue to struggle with moisture deficits. The environment for unirrigated coarse grain, oilseeds, rice, cotton, and other crops was less than favorable and the need for rain is high. Other locations in the North China Plain received enough rain or had enough moisture to support aggressive growth. Drier-than-normal weather is slated for much of the North China Plain during the coming week to possibly as much as ten days and the area impacted by dryness may expand. In contrast, localized flooding will be a concern in northern sections of Shaanxi, Shanxi, and Hebei into central Inner Mongolia during the next several days as waves of heavy rain evolve. Tropical Storm Francisco could also promote significant rain in portions of southeastern China over the weekend and early next week.
