Canadian Prairies To Receive Much-Needed Rain This Week

Kansas City, August 4 (World Weather Inc.) – Several areas in Alberta and western Saskatchewan received significant rain over the weekend as storms evolved on a frequent basis. Pockets received multiple inches of rain that will support a better environment for the later stages of development. Crop conditions remain highly variable across the Canadian Prairies as rainfall has been beneficial for some while missing other production areas. Northern Alberta and portions of northern and eastern Saskatchewan into Manitoba have been much drier than usual this growing season and production potentials have steadily declined. An active weather pattern is in store for the Prairies this week with waves of rain and thunderstorms expected. The precipitation will be welcome, but it will come too late to significantly improve production potentials in areas that have struggled with dryness for much of the growing season.

Tropical Storm Dexter Forms east of North Carolina

Kansas City, August 4 (World Weather Inc.) – The first in a series of tropical disturbances to evolve in the Atlantic Ocean Basin in the next couple of weeks has already become Tropical Storm Dexter. The storm was well east of North Carolina and it will move away from North America while intensifying early this week. No other tropical cyclones were noted in the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of America or Caribbean Sea, although there is some potential for new development later this week.

July Weather Parallel Suggest Less East U.S. Midwest Aug. Rain

Kansas City, August 1 (World Weather Inc.) – Today’s GFS and ECMWF model forecasts are offering less rain in the central and eastern Midwest for the coming week and then return rain in the second week of the two-week outlook. That should be fine if the forecast verifies, but what if the tropics become more active and a more limited rainfall pattern evolves over the Midwest for a while – which is possible especially late in the second and third weeks of August? There is an interesting parallel to this year’s July weather with that from a composite of three other post solar maximum years in which August weather trended drier than usual in the central and eastern Midwest. It is worth investigating; though, the odds are still favoring at least timely rainfall in the second half of August even if the rainfall is lighter than usual.
