Ontario Summer Crops Become Moisture Stressed

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Southeast Canada’s main summer crop areas were generally drier or much drier than usual during the past month. The environment was favorable for winter wheat that was maturing and being harvested; however, the ground recently became too dry for ideal development conditions for corn and soybeans mostly in Ontario. Additional drying is expected for at least another week which will lead to greater corn and soybean stress and expand some of the dryness and stress more deeply into Quebec. Most of the crop stress has been a recent development and yield potentials have been high this year. Timely rain will be needed soon to protect late season crop yields.

China Crops To Remain Good Despite Drier Weather For Some

Kansas City, August 14 (World Weather Inc.) – Tropical Depression Podul was advancing across southern China earlier this morning after slamming into Taiwan earlier this week. No major flooding was noted in southeastern China and the disturbance will gradually dissipate later today into early Friday. Production potentials otherwise remain favorable for much of China due to timely rain in previously dry areas during the past week. Several locations in east-central China will experience drier than usual conditions during the coming week that will lead to a loss in soil moisture. These areas will still have enough moisture to support aggressive growth. Other production areas will have several opportunities for rain that will maintain a relatively good outlook.
